    Oscars

    Filed under: Business, Films, Life;

    The Academy Awards is on tonight. I haven’t seen a single one of the films that are being nominated. I frankly can’t afford to spend $10 – $15 per person to go see a movie in the theaters any more. I don’t go to the movies alone, so my out of pocket is anywhere from $20 to $40 for two of us to see one movie. They charge extra for 3D movies, and all the new movies seem to be coming out in a 3D version.

    It will be interesting to see which movies win the Oscars tonight. I’m looking forward to watching most of them – when they come out on DVD.

    The first of March is the start of a three month season of severe weather. This is the most dangerous time of year for severe thunderstorms and the threat of tornadoes. The weather can swing from 40 degrees to 80 degrees in just one day. That kind of temperature difference is the reason we have most tornadoes in this area. Hopefully we won’t have much trouble with that this year.

    crab

    One of my favorite summer past times is sitting on a big screened porch at a picnic table and picking crab meat from a bushel of fresh steamed crabs. One crab is enough to one nice sized crab cake, but if you don’t add the bread crumbs as filler I can probably eat 4 or 5 good sized crabs at one meal. Good eating!

    We had a terrible storm last night. The lightning and thunder woke me up and sent my dog scampering for the basement. It seems like every time we have a big thunderstorm she wants to go to her “safe place” in the basement – a little hidey hole right by the washer and dryer.

    The lightning must have done some real damage nearby because my phone line went dead during the storm. This morning it was still not on, but thankfully we did have electricity and no property damage.
