Tonight at work I was talking to one of my coworkers. He grew up in the bronx so he had all kinds of stories to tell me about how life on the “streets” was for him. He told me that his father got shot when he was only 9 years-old. For some reason it made me look at him differently and really understand why he is so mature for his age.
After the shooting happened he pretty much had to take over looking after his younger brother and sister. His mom had to go out and work 2 jobs to support the family of 4. You always hear about stories like this but I personally have never met anyone in person who had to suffer and struggle so much. He has become such a sweet and responsible person. I am so glad I have gotten the opportunity to work with him and know him.
