Turkey, Parades and Football
Its nice to have a day off from work. Thankfully, I am getting paid for the day, which I get to spend watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and then football.
Then I will feast on a turkey breast, with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and a green bean casserole topped with french fried onions.
My dessert choice is pecan pie. I am going to pass on the pumpkin pie this time and push that back to Christmas dinner, instead.
Friday
Did you know that the English word, Friday, is derived from Viking days? I always thought that everything about our calendar came from the Romans. But Friday is in honor of Frigg, the wife of the Viking god, Odin. I came across this tidbit while clicking through Wikipedia. Maybe it is time for me to read up on Norse mythology – I don’t remember much from when we had to study that back in high school. But now I am interested in the subject, it will probably mean a lot more to me now than it did back then.
Word Play
Have you noticed how some companies use words to disguise their reality? Like instead of saying that they sell used cars, they call them “previously owned” or “pre-loved”?
I was reading a listing for a job with a company that calls itself a “consumer finance business.” I wish they would cut the crap and just call themselves a title loan company. Seriously.
Fall
Today everyone was complaining about the cold weather and how they aren’t ready for the season. I love this season and all the layers you get to wear. I’ve always been more fond of getting warm in the Winter as opposed to Summer and having to cool down. I’m looking forward to getting some new clothes and accessories. Cardigans are big again this year and I want them all. H&M has a bunch of good choices, I’ve been eyeing them for a while. Hope I can find it on sale soon, everything feels better on sale.
Dont Poke Me
Why does Facebook have a “poke” feature? I think poking is a bad thing. It is rude. It is pain. It is not something I welcome. I won’t use their poke feature and don’t want anyone to poke me, either.
